Harnessing the Mining Industry

When specialist mining services provider Wiring Harnesses Australia needed to upgrade its service vehicle fleet, the company looked no further than Isuzu's four-wheel-drive NPS 300s.

"We needed something that was a bit tougher and could carry a higher payload than our existing Land Cruisers," Wiring Harnesses Australia (WHA) owner Aaron Bradshaw said.

"The company was also looking for something that had a four-wheel-drive system and was able to operate in rough terrain, especially around the mine sites," he said.

The NPS 300 4x4s, with their GVM of 6,000 kg (now standard with 6,500 kg GVM), were ideal, according to Aaron.

Mt Isa-based WHA supply wiring harnesses and auto electrical repairs to the local mining industry and the rest of north-west Queensland.

The benefits of using WHA's braided wiring harnesses is to keep wires safe from the effects of vibration, abrasion and moisture which are all present in the harsh conditions of mining.

Taking between 30 minutes and two weeks to make, the harnesses can hold up to 200 wires that are up to 20 metres in length.

The company also offers an in-house design workshop that makes custom wiring harnesses for new and existing wiring systems for mining clients.

Aaron said the company is meeting the high demand that is stemming from the mining industry and the two new Isuzu trucks match the company's promise of quality and reliability.

The trucks are both fitted to mine specifications which inlcude service bodies that have a galvanised and painted tray as well as four large alloy toolboxes. The bodies also feature a light-weight - but strong - Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS).

The NPS 300 4x4s are fitted with electric start diesel air compressors for air tools, cleaning equipment, general auto electrical parts and air conditioners. The trucks also have a 100 litre water tank for cleaning and an electric water pump for washing down air conditioning units and components.

The feedback on the trucks has been positive.

"Our team really enjoys driving the trucks on a daily basis," Aaron said.
"The comfort of the contoured adjustable driver's bucket seat has been a big talking point amongst the drivers.

"We are very happy with the vehicles so far and plan to purchase some more Isuzu trucks."

All wiring solutions are specially-designed for each project the company undertakes, so customers receive wiring harnesses to their exact needs. All projects are tested at the WHA workshop before being released, maintaining high industry standards.

Using only the best quality products, the company's wiring systems are cold and abrasion resistant, chemical tolerant and flame retardant. The wire is made from bare copper and tin copper for high corrosive conditions.

The high performance PVC wire braid can be exposed to 138 degrees Celsius heat for extended periods of time. The basic properties are compounded additives for cold flexibility, fire resistance and resistance to engine fluids.

As a part of its service, the company also offers wire printing, printed labels and trace colours which all allow for easy identification of cables.

With experience and the ability to manage and execute projects in a timely manner, WHA is now one of the leaders in the field of wiring solutions.

November 28, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Ram Truck is launching a new division to focus on commercial truck development, sales and support in a growing market. Embodied by the Tradesman trim level available on all models, the new Ram Commercial organization offers a full line of industrial-strength trucks and vans.

The new Ram Commercial division integrates a growing network of Ram BusinessLink dealers focused on the needs of commercial customers. Ram Commercial also will help offset the cost of doing business with On The Job incentives, specifically designed to lower the expense of commercial upfits. Both programs address professional needs for every job.

Timing of Ram Commercial launch aligns with the upcoming launch of the all-new Ram ProMaster and positive commercial demand. With the entire auto industry growing by two million units year over year in 2012, and further growth expected in 2013, commercial business will be key as it represents about one quarter of the total volume.

“Ram Truck is committed to delivering the best value proposition with low total cost of ownership across the entire product line up. From the Ram 5500 Chassis Cab to the Ram C/V, we’re providing best-in-class capability and technology,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO, Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico — Chrysler Group LLC. “We’ve not only taken steps to expand and improve our product offerings but created and built upon customer service solutions, following through with BusinessLink and On the Job programs for customers who use their truck as a critical tool for business.”

Ram Commercial targets countless businesses in a variety of industries, including service and repairs, construction, transportation/shipping, large-medium-small businesses and agriculture. The economy has incurred pent up demand to replace aging commercial fleets and vehicles that are no longer offered in the market. This has created opportunity and Ram Commercial will be there with a variety of capable and efficient vehicles.

A vehicle is designated “commercial” under one of the following circumstances:
  • Titled in a company or corporation
  • Used for business but titled in an individual's name (sole proprietor)
  • Exceeds 26,000 lbs. GVWR
  • Used to haul any hazardous material

World CNG Introduces Ford F550 Dedicated Natural Gas Truck Platform

Collaborative project with CASECO Manufacturing and Clear Sky CNG yields
medium-duty CNG service truck that outperforms gasoline and diesel models

Kent, WA –(November 28, 2012)– World CNG, a company specializing in natural gas vehicle technology and conversions, today announced the successful completion of a 2012 Ford F550 dedicated natural gas truck platform. The project’s goal was straightforward: produce a natural gas-powered Ford F550 with a crane service body that achieves a 250 mile range and outperforms the gasoline model at near-maximum loads of 19,500 lbs. Critical to the success of the project were service body manufacturer CASECO Manufacturing and World CNG’s Oklahoma City certified install partner Clear Sky CNG.

"Natural gas-powered vehicles are a cleaner and more affordable solution for any number of fleets that operate mediumduty work trucks," said Josh Hosford, World CNG Vice President of Sales. "World CNG’s new F550 dedicated CNG conversions combine the rugged durability of the CASECO service body with the versatility of our custom-designed natural gas fuel systems to offer these fleets a safe and reliable natural gas work vehicle."

Chesapeake Energy Corporation, the second largest producer of natural gas in the United States, was the first customer to purchase the Ford F550 platform for its corporate fleet. Chesapeake is converting its fleet of nearly 5,000 vehicles to run on compressed natural gas.

"Chesapeake would not be able to convert its fleet to run on CNG without a variety of vehicle options, including the Ford F550 offered by World CNG," said Dale Sanderson, Chesapeake Specialty Equipment Manager. "World CNG accommodated our fleet’s needs and produced a vehicle that is performing well in the field. We look forward to continuing to take advantage of the many benefits of using natural gas as a transportation fuel – specifically fuel cost savings and lower emissions."

Hosford added, "These conversions typically pay for themselves in eighteen months. Because our design focuses on range and drivability, we expect very strong demand for this product in 2013."

In addition to the Ford F550 configuration World CNG also has available EPA- and CARB-certified dedicated CNG conversions for the Ford F450 and F650 trucks. Each configuration features a World CNG high pressure system, customdesigned to allow for a variety of box and service body options to suit utility/municipal fleets, private contractors, and cargo delivery services.

The box truck configuration includes two rail-mounted composite CNG tanks with a combined 58.6 GGE of fuel storage, providing an estimated range of up to 350 miles and no loss of cargo space. Service bodies are manufactured and engineered by CASECO Manufacturing, as are each I-Mount Cross Box that houses a dual CNG tank configuration. The IMount Cross Box is a space-efficient and sturdy CNG tank storage solution that also provides one slide-out storage drawer.

Three composite dual tank configurations are available, each providing 250 to 350 miles of estimated range.

CNG conversions are available for model years 2011 and 2012 and for F450 and F550 vehicles up to 19,500 lbs. maximum GVW and the F650 model up to 30,000 lbs. maximum GVW. Model year 2013 is available for pre-order. http://www.casecotruck.com/default.htm

About World CNG:
Escalating economic and environmental costs of transportation fuels affect businesses and municipalities of all sizes, but especially those with fleets of vehicles that consume thousands of gallons of fuel every year. World CNG’s mission is to provide these fleets with vehicles that save money on fuel and maintenance costs and produce significantly fewer harmful emissions than conventional gasoline or diesel vehicles. World CNG specializes in the aftermarket conversion of light- and medium-duty passenger and cargo vehicles to use compressed natural gas instead of conventional gasoline or diesel.

With over 25 years of experience in the development, fabrication, and installation of alternative fuel systems, World CNG is a well-established leader in the alternative fuel vehicles industry. Catering primarily to public and private fleets and transit and paratransit groups, World CNG’s product line covers the entire spectrum of fleet vehicles. http://www.worldcng.com/

ON THE CULINARY CUTTING EDGE: ISUZU-BASED FOOD TRUCKS TO DEBUT THIS FALL

Isuzu and Mobi Munch Partner
To Provide Consumers with the Latest in Mobile Dining Options

ANAHEIM, Calif.—Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc., announced today that nine Isuzu NRR diesel cab chassis outfitted as food trucks by Mobi Munch, Inc., have been placed into service on college campuses throughout the United States. Now operating its three brands on nine purchased and customized Isuzu NRR medium-duty trucks, Mobi Munch will be launching new trucks on other campuses in early 2013.

“The food-truck trend is growing dramatically across the country, and it represents a major opportunity wherever people are looking for affordable, contemporary cuisine at times and in places the typical restaurant might not operate,” said Shaun Skinner, executive vice president and general manager of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America. “We are thrilled that Mobi Munch has recognized that the ruggedness, durability, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness of Isuzu NRR trucks lend themselves to upfitting as food trucks.”

Isuzu-based Mobi Munch food trucks have opened in these cities during fall 2012:

· Conway, Arkansas
· Fort Myers, Florida
· Gainesville, Florida
· Knoxville, Tennessee
· Tempe, Arizona
· San Antonio, Texas
· Tallahassee, Florida
· Tuscaloosa, Alabama
· Waco, Texas

Each truck operates using one of Mobi Munch’s proprietary brands, menus and operating systems: La Lola Loca (Latin street eats); Fàn Boy (Asian fusion cuisine); or Biker Jim’s (gourmet hot dogs).

The Isuzu NRR is a 19,500-lb. GVWR low-cab-forward truck powered by Isuzu’s 4HK1-TC 5.2-liter diesel engine. The overhead cam, turbocharged, intercooled powerplant generates up to 215 horsepower. The engine is exceptionally clean as well—in fact, Isuzu’s N-Series trucks were the first on the market to meet the most stringent emissions standards in the world. The NRR is EPA 2010 compliant, California Air Resources Board HD-OBD compliant, and 50-state clean-idle certified.

These accomplishments in power, efficiency and environmental friendliness are matched by long-term reliability. The Isuzu 4H engine can run for up to 10,000 miles between oil changes and boasts an astonishing B10 durability rating of 310,000 miles, meaning that 90% of 4H engines will reach that mileage before requiring an overhaul.

“Food-truck operators demand vehicles rugged enough to haul thousands of pounds of restaurant equipment but durable enough to count on, day in and day out,” said Josh Tang, CEO of Mobi Munch, Inc. “And today’s consumers are especially concerned about the impact that all vehicles have on the environment. The payload, power, economy and small carbon footprint of the Isuzu NRR make it a perfect choice for modern food-truck application.”

Operators are delighted by the NRR’s creature comforts, as well, including standard air conditioning and a cab that legally and comfortably seats up to three (eliminating the additional cost of transporting a third employee to and from the truck’s location).

“Trucks are the one sector of the food-service industry that’s still growing,” Tang said. “Every chef needs a truck as much as every chef needs a website. Our goal is to make it easy for restaurant owners to become mobile—and with Isuzu trucks, we are accomplishing that goal.”

Citan in Endurance Test

No matter if motorway, country road or a ride in the city - the Citan has to cope with different routes and driving styles under a constant testing program.

The so-called endurance test assembles a complete vehicle's service life. The test vehicle has to complete 150,000 km under extreme conditions. Specific educated drivers test the vehicle in a three-shift system about ten months throughout Greater Stuttgart.

In our film test driver Bernd Gläßner explains how the endurance test works out and on which things the specialists have to concentrate in particular.
