Daimler commercial vehicles at Bauma from 11 – 17 April 2016 in Munich Stuttgart

From A for Arocs to Z for Zetros: The alphabet of construction vehicles from Daimler at Bauma 2016 in Munich
  • Daimler presents 22 vehicles for the construction industry over  2100 m²
  • The focus is on the Arocs, the only truck model series for construction
  • Actros 4163 LS SLT as a four-axle model with an additional dock axle
  • Unimog U 527 shows what the implement carrier achieves in road construction
  • Mercedes-Benz Vans covers the entire construction spectrum
  • Fuso Canter impresses with a robust design and high payload
  • Daimler Services offer diverse services covering all aspects of the construction vehicle
Strong. On every terrain. This is the Daimler motto for its appearance at the Bauma 2016 trade fair. As the world's leading show for the construction sector it offers the ideal podium for the Group's diverse construction ve-hicles. From A for Arocs to Z for Zetros they cover the entire spectrum of construction vehicles. Whether it's an urban delivery vehicle or van, a light-duty truck or a heavy-duty truck, heavy-duty tractor units or an individual special-purpose vehicle – the Mercedes-Benz and Fuso brands offer the right answer to every question in the construction segment. Over a total area of 2100 m², on an area of 1700 m² in Hall B4 and over a space of 400 m² in the open-air grounds right next to it Daimler is exhibiting 22 vehicles in all for virtually every conceivable application.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks: Arocs, Atego, Actros and Actros/Arocs SLT
The Mercedes-Benz A Team is the main focus when it comes to trucks for the construction industry. At its heart is the Arocs, the specialised truck model series for construction transport and thus a true pro through and through. The Arocs celebrated its world premiere at Bauma 2013, and now it is available with its full range. This includes the Arocs HAD with the engageable all-wheel drive Hydraulic Auxiliary Drive. It is currently causing a sensation in the construction sector. In time for Bauma 2016 Mercedes-Benz is extending the spectrum of the Arocs to include a new hypoid-axle tandem in two different versions (2x10 t and 2x13 t) for even higher efficiency, plus cab variants with a low entrance and also additional equipment variants such as a cockpit with a light interior and optional equipment with the Home line or Style line. The Arocs is demonstrating its abilities at Bauma with six vehicles.
The Arocs is flanked by several model series. The Atego as a medium-duty dump truck, for instance, is being shown at Bauma 2016 as an all-wheel drive dump truck. An Actros from the tried-and-tested model series com-pletes the stand-out range for export markets all over the world. One of the eye-catching features always comes in the form of the spectacular Actros SLT and Arocs SLT heavy-duty tractor/trailer combinations. At Bauma 2016 an Actros 4163 LS Semi-SLT as a four-axle model with an additional dock axle is opening the door to the fascinating world of the heavy guys, and here it is configured for an overall towing weight of 155 t.
Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks: Unimog, Zetros and the Econic
It is indispensable for special tasks on the construction site: the off-road legend that is the Unimog proves its unique skills as a highly specialised implement carrier in model series U 218 to U 530 with a multitude of attachments and implements – now even with four-wheel steering. In off-road applications the all-terrain Unimog U 4027/U 5027 accesses work-places which others would never reach. At the Bauma show a Unimog U 527 is demonstrating just what the implement carrier is capable of in road construction. The Mercedes-Benz Zetros also has permanent all-wheel drive. At the same time it offers the load capacity of a heavy-duty truck. The extremely robust cab-over-engine vehicle is presented at Bauma 2016 as a three-axle model, as befits a heavy-duty truck for off-road use. The Mercedes-Benz Econic is embarking on a career as a construction vehicle. In urban construction transport it enhances safety due to its low-entry cab with an optimum view of pedestrians and cyclists.
Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT). Application Information Centre
Whatever it takes: Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) realises individual requests. Whether it is a question of wheelbase modifications, an Arocs as a five-axle model featuring the axle configuration 10x4, a Zetros with a crewcab or as a tractor unit: CTT manufactures extraordinary variants for customers all over the world. Developed by in-house engineers in close coordination with Daimler Trucks' central development department. With service and explicit and implied warranties from Mercedes-Benz.
View, compare and drive construction vehicles from Mercedes-Benz: the Application Information Centre makes this possible. Right at the gates of the truck plant in Wörth, customers can inspect around 180 trucks from all model series and tonnages, including around 40 dump trucks, concrete mixers and building material platforms. They carry bodies from renowned manufacturers. At the Application Information Centre, customers benefit from neutral advice and from the opportunity to drive the laden truck, even off-road.
Mercedes-Benz Vans: Sprinter, Vito and Citan
As a full-range provider in the MPV sector Mercedes-Benz Vans covers the entire construction spectrum.
On the construction site the best-selling Sprinter van is present in diverse variants, as a pickup, crewcab, dump truck, panel van and crewbus, with special bodies and fittings, with rear- and all-wheel drive. At Bauma 2016 the Sprinter is appearing as a crewcab with a tipper body plus as a pickup. A long-wheelbase version of the Vito Mixto shows the extent of a panel van's ability: it transports people and materials simultaneously and ploughs through thick and thin with all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz is sounding out the compact Citan's possibilities with surprisingly spacious workshop fittings. The Citan benefits from detailed enhancements and extended equipment. One of these is the new dual clutch transmission 6G.DCT.
With the VanSolution range Mercedes-Benz Vans is extending its offering to include complete vehicles with bodies and fittings from a single source and with a full plant warranty and implied warranty – also for construction.
Fuso Canter: the high-payload and indestructible light-duty truck
A robust design, durable components, a high payload and low costs – the Fuso Canter displays properties that the construction sector wants. It ranges from 3.5 t to 8.55 t perm. GVW and is thus driving-licence-friendly. A space-saving cab-over-engine design, stable frame, strong axles, compact and powerful engines – there are many arguments in favour of the Fuso Canter. And there are added specialities: the dual clutch transmission Duonic cuts consumption and enhances comfort, the Canter 4x4 demons-trates impressive handling off-road, as the first standard hybrid truck in Europe the Canter Eco Hybrid saves lots of fuel, the Canter E-Cell is as quiet as a whisper when out on the road and is emission-free as it drives through town.
Daimler services: a diverse range
With a truck from Mercedes-Benz, companies and drivers are never alone – each vehicle is framed by a range of unique, high-performance services. The Mercedes-Benz Bank adds tailor-made financing or the right leasing model to the mix. Europe's leading telematics provider FleetBoard cuts fuel con-sumption and wear, provides support for order management and reads out the driver card. The construction vehicle is available for lease from CharterWay, whether for 24 hours or a period of months, supplemented by services and special fleet contracts. CharterWay even leases the Actros SLT. With the free Mercedes-Benz ServiceCard customers can put everything on one card: refuelling at the most favourably priced filling station on the route, paying service and toll fees, easier coordination of help should the vehicle break down. After all, TruckStore is Europe's largest used vehicle dealer for trucks and responsible for the purchase and sale of used vans and trucks. The average stock is around 4000 vehicles, including lots of trucks for the construction industry. A Europe-wide uniform evaluation plus individual services ensure fair and individual processing.

Ford Gas-Saving Auto Start-Stop Technology to Be Standard Across Entire 2017 EcoBoost-Equipped F-150 Lineup

  •      Auto Start-Stop to be standard across 100 percent of EcoBoost®-equipped 2017 Ford F-150 lineup, including all-new F-150 Raptor; technology could represent more than 60 percent of truck’s sales
  •     F-150 Auto Start-Stop technology is specially tuned for truck customers, shutting off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop – except when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode
  •     With best-in-class towing, payload and EPA-estimated gas mileage for 2016, F-150 continues to change the game in capability and fuel efficiency
DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 21, 2016 – Ford, America’s truck leader, continues to set the pace of innovation among full-size trucks with the expansion of Auto Start-Stop technology across the entire lineup of EcoBoost®-equipped 2017 F-150 pickups.

The 2016 F-150 with 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine comes standard with Auto Start-Stop. That offering continues for 2017, with the addition of the technology as standard equipment for all 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines including the all-new high-output version for F-150 Raptor.

At the rate EcoBoost is growing, fuel-saving Auto Start-Stop could represent more than 60 percent of the truck lineup – giving F-150 the highest number of Ford nameplates offering standard Auto Start-Stop technology.

“EcoBoost already powers F-150’s best-in-class towing,” said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “Now, with every EcoBoost-equipped F-150 mildly electrified with standard Auto Start-Stop technology, customers’ fuel efficiency is expected to improve as well.”

Specially tuned for truck customers, Auto Start-Stop shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop – except when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode – to give drivers power on demand when they need it most. When the brake is released, the engine restarts quickly.

Auto Start-Stop for F-150 benefits from Ford’s hybrid electric vehicle expertise, helping ensure smooth and refined engine restarts.

Actual fuel savings vary depending on driving patterns. The technology also contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions due to decreased idle times.

John Deere - New Modular Inverter

PD400 for ‘Space Savings and Flexibility’ in Hybrid Electrics

John Deere Electronic Solutions is promoting its new PD400 modular inverter for hybrid electric vehicles as a parts count-reducing and space-saving unit for high-voltage/high-power hybrid electric vehicles.

The new PD400 inverter from JDES is designed to work with the company’s full suite of JDES advanced motor control software.

“The PD400 all-in-one system eliminates the need for multiple interfaces, while also matching exact system requirements, simplifying work, and allowing system designers to optimize machine performance in the often-extreme conditions of off-highway and heavy-duty applications,” JDES says.

As such, it “provides space savings and flexibility to system designers,” the firm says – in large part because the PD400 can be configured as a dual inverters, taking the place of two conventional units.
‘Advances in electrified vehicle design aren’t impacting only consumer vehicles, but are also beginning to influence system design and development in on- and off-highway heavy equipment,’ says John Deere Electronic Solutions.

‘Advances in electrified vehicle design aren’t impacting only consumer vehicles, but are also beginning to influence system design and development in on- and off-highway heavy equipment,’ says John Deere Electronic Solutions.

Simpler Connections

As an additional benefit, Deere says, “the PD400 protects both itself and the machine’s other systems from resonance at a low cost while freeing up space with its compact design.”

Energy loss is decreased and heat control improved as the liquid-cooled PD400 design eliminates multiple connector and cooling interfaces. The PD400 features a common electronic control architecture that supports the full suite of JDES advanced motor control software – “accurately synchronized [with] mistake-proof integration.”

A Full John Deere Inverter Line-Up

Additional features also include an optional DC-DC converter as a potential alternator replacement and an available integrated isolation-monitoring feature for preventive maintenance use.

The PD400 modular inverter joins a JDES line-up which includes the PD300, PD550 Single and PD550 Dual – all said to be suited “for a variety of off-highway and heavy-duty vehicle applications, such as waste management, agriculture and drilling.”

Savana powertrains: 6.6L Duramax diesel
The available Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 delivers best-in-class torque and horsepower. Known by its “LGH” engine code, it is rated at 260 horsepower (194 kW) and 525 lb-ft of torque (711 Nm).

The LGH Duramax was designed with a robust EGR cooling system, along with revised turbocharger tuning that helps enhance EGR performance. It also has a large-capacity selective catalytic reduction system. In fact, the engine features the latest in emission control technology, making it the cleanest Duramax engine ever produced. NOx emissions are controlled via a Selective Catalyst Reduction aftertreatment system that uses urea-based Diesel (Emission) Exhaust Fluid (DEF). The DEF is housed in a 5.83-gallon (20 L) tank and needs to be replenished about every 5,000 miles (8,000 km). Electrically heated lines feed the DEF to the emission system to ensure adequate delivery in cold weather.

The Duramax also includes GM’s second-generation diesel particulate filter system. Unlike most competitors’ systems, the Duramax regenerates its diesel particulate filter using a downstream injection of diesel fuel directly into the exhaust stream and can travel up to 700 miles (1,125 km) between regenerations – a 300-mile (482 km) increase over the previous Duramax engine. The use of downstream injection also helps improve engine life by eliminating concerns regarding the possibility of diesel fuel contaminating engine oil, which can happen when fuel used for regeneration is introduced directly into the cylinder.

The Duramax also provides outstanding cold-weather performance, with  microprocessor-controlled glow plugs capable of gas engine-like start performance in less than three seconds in temperatures as low as -20 degrees F (-29 C), without a block heater. The engine has been developed to operate for at least 200,000 miles (322,000 km) on a rough-duty cycle without the need for a major overhaul; and it is backed with a five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

A fuel-operated heater also is available for vans equipped with the Duramax 6.6L to provide heat quickly to the vehicle interior in cold weather. The seamlessly integrated system is designed into the Express chassis, saving customers the time and labor of upfitting an aftermarket system. The electronically controlled, fuel-operated heater operates automatically, turning on and off within parameters that include outside air temperature, fuel level, coolant temperature and whether the engine is running. It features a self-contained, pressurized auxiliary coolant heater (with a surge tank) that uses diesel fuel to generate up to 17,200 Btu/h (5 kW) of heating energy.

The Duramax engine is backed by GM’s Hydra-Matic 6L90 heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission.

Savana powertrains – gas engines
GMC Savana offers a choice of two gas engines: a standard 4.8L V-8 rated at 285 horsepower (213 kW) and 295 lb-ft of torque (400 Nm) and an available 6.0L V-8 rated at 342 horsepower (255 kW) and 373 lb-ft of torque (506 Nm). Each is part of GM’s legendary small-block engine family and designed for quiet operation, including:
  •     Special friction-reducing polymer coating on piston skirts
  •     Full-floating piston pins
  •     Damping patch on the oil pan (externally mounted)
  •     Timing chain tensioner
  •     Quiet alternator.
Backing the engines’ quietness is the assurance of long-lasting performance. The engine family was validated under extreme conditions, with the 6.0L engine dynamometer-tested to the equivalent of 200,000 miles – 50,000 miles more than other engines in the family. The engines also feature many long-life engine components that can reduce maintenance intervals and costs. The iridium-tip spark plugs, engine coolant, accessory drive belt and sealing gaskets are some of these items.

Some of the stringent durability testing included cycling engines between the peak torque and peak horsepower rpm points – the equivalent of towing a heavy trailer up a steep grade – for 600 straight hours.

The engines are mated to the Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic and a fast-idle option makes it easier to run accessories at a work site.

The 6.0L is also offered in a special version with hardened valve seats for the available dedicated compressed natural gas models – the industry’s only CNG vehicles that are fully integrated at the factory, crash tested and backed by GM’s 60,000 mile/five-year transferable powertrain limited warranty.
(Certain commercial and government fleet customers receive the 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty.)

Two systems are offered:

A three-tank system (RPO code UFM) provides a range of up to 200 miles and allows the complete use of the cargo area
A four-tank system (RPO code UFP) provides a range of up to 300 miles, with the additional tank in the driver’s side of the cargo area, just inboard of the wheel well.

Savana chassis and suspension
The Savana is built on a strong, ladder-type full frame architecture. The frame features fully boxed sections for greater strength and rigidity, while extended and tapered front frame rails are used for improved crashworthiness. Also, additional tubular frame cross members are used to increase torsional stiffness.

All models feature an independent short-long arm (SLA) front suspension, with a 35mm front stabilizer bar. Two-stage, semi-elliptic multi-leaf springs are used in the rear suspension and help locate a semi-floating axle.

Additional chassis and suspension features include:
  •     Hydroboost four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and dynamic rear proportioning
  •     StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard on all models
  •     A locking rear differential is available
  •     31-gallon (117.3 L) fuel tank is standard on all models (except for dedicated compressed natural gas package)
  •     8,600-pound GVWR on 2500 models
  •     9,600-pound / 9,900-pound GVWR on 3500 models.
Savana safety and crash-avoidance features
Savana is equipped with a host of safety features, including six standard air bags: frontal, head and side curtain, and thoracic air bags, which provide a higher level of protection in the event of a side impact or a vehicle rollover.

Additional standard safety features include:
  •     StabiliTrak electronic stability control system
  •     OnStar with Turn-by-Turn navigation
  •     Tire pressure monitoring
  •     Flat and convex exterior mirrors (for a wider field of vision)
  •     Four-wheel anti-lock disc brake system with Hydroboost
  •     Daytime running lamps.

Harbor Contractor II Body - Plenty of Storage!

Jordan Lewis, Commercial Truck Manager at Dow Lewis GMC in Yuba City CA shows off a great solution for many contractors who want storage, but also want the benefits of a flatbed truck. This body, mounted on a GMC 1-ton Dually chassis is a Harbor Contractor II Body. The twist with the Contractor II Body is the tall and deep compartment at the front of the body. The open lid typical upper box is retained, but the real value of this body is the combination of the two types of boxes.

You can see how much more storage capacity there is in the Contractor II arrangement. The shelves are moveable or removable and the compartment is deep enough to carry a wide variety of items, including tall items.

This unit also has a removable forklift loadable rack, fold-down contractor style gates in the rear, and a class IV receiver, and 7-pin trailer connector. It also has a great full-length step for easy rear access.

CV Show 2016 pre-registration goes live

Online visitor pre-registration for the Commercial Vehicle Show 2016 is now open for business. Once again it’s taking place at the NEC, Birmingham (26 – 28 April), and inhabiting Halls 3, 4 and 5. Pre-registration is highly advisable as it speeds up entry on arrival and the organisers will supply the latest news by e-mail.

This year’s event has already attracted close to 400 exhibitors, a number that’s set to grow further in the weeks leading up to the event. With over 19,500 visitors attending CV Show 2015, it remains the ‘go-to’ event for anyone involved in operating commercial vehicles, logistics and distribution-based businesses.

Despite a noticeable lack of truck manufacturers attending in 2016, the light commercial vehicle sector will be well catered for bar two notable exceptions; Mercedes-Benz and Nissan. Volkswagen is returning for the first time since 2011 when it launched the Amarok and there’s a name from the past rising from the ashes Phoenix-like, courtesy of Irish importer the Harris group; LDV.

“In 2015, the Show was a massive success and saw an impressive increase in visitor numbers,” said show director, Rob Skelton. “Several key deals were done during the event, and we had some fantastic feedback from both exhibitors and visitors alike. In 2016, we’re looking to build on this and make the CV Show more effective and busier than ever. We’d encourage visitors to register now to avoid queueing and also receive important updates in the run-up to the event."

GM Woos Used Car Buyers with New Online Service

Factory Pre-Owned Collection creates a simpler, easier experience
•    Huge inventory of pre-owned, low-mileage vehicles available online
•    Features easy-to-compare suggested pricing using Kelley Blue Book® Fair Market Range
•    Extension of GM’s Shop-Click-Drive online shopping service

DETROIT – Online shoppers in the U.S. looking for a used Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac will soon have access to a national inventory of low-mileage former General Motors lease, daily rental and company-owned vehicles never before available to the public in one easy-to-navigate place.

GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra today announced the company is launching the Factory Pre-Owned Collection as another example of GM’s efforts to earn customers for life.

“We know that many of our customers who are shopping for a used car want to complete more of the process online, and that number is growing,” Barra said. “GM is already a leader in online new car shopping with our Shop-Click-Drive service, and we are expanding it with the Factory Pre-Owned Collection, making GM the first automaker to offer this choice to consumers.”

GM’s Factory Pre-Owned Collection will feature a nationwide inventory of more than 30,000 vehicles, all with fewer than 37,000 miles, and including an extended factory bumper-to-bumper limited warranty.

Consumers can easily compare suggested prices on the site to what others in their area have paid using the Kelley Blue Book Fair Market Range, which is based in part on what others in the vehicle’s area have paid for the same or similar vehicles. Customers can also get a Carfax Vehicle History Report on the vehicles displayed on the site. The Factory Pre-Owned Collection site (www.factorypreownedcollection.com) will be available to consumers in February.

“Kelley Blue Book’s mission is to provide this type of trusted valuation and car shopping information to help consumers make the best possible purchase decision,” said Jared Rowe, president of Cox Automotive Media Division, which includes Kelley Blue Book.

Online shoppers who use the Factory Pre-Owned Collection will follow three simple steps:
1.    Browse the inventory to find the vehicle of their choice.
2.    Choose a participating GM dealer and reserve their vehicle using the Shop-Click-Drive experience.
3.    Finalize their purchase and take delivery of their vehicle from their selected dealer.

The Factory Pre-Owned Collection also features a three-day/150-mile exchange program, a three-month trial of the OnStar Guidance Plan and the Sirius/XM Satellite Radio All-Access Package and more. Vehicles also come with roadside assistance and courtesy transportation during the warranty period.

“Technology and consumer demands are disrupting the used car marketplace, and GM is leading the way in transforming the way used cars are sold,” said Alan Batey, president, GM North America. “The Factory Pre-Owned Collection creates a simpler, easier experience for our customers and offers them more choices, less hassle and greater peace of mind. It’s also great for our dealers and GM because it introduces new buyers to our brands and increases residual values. Everybody wins.”

Westport Reports CNG Certifications

Federal Approval of Both Dedicated and Bi-Fuel CNG F-150s,
EPA Also Certifies Westport for CNG E-450 with 6.8-Liter Engine

Westport has secured U.S. EPA certification of its dedicated-compressed natural gas and CNG-gasoline bi-fuel versions of model year Ford F-150 pickups, says Paul Shaffer, VP and managing director of the company’s Dallas upfit center.

Availability of the gaseous-prep version of Ford’s 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V-28 engine was announced at
ACT Expo 2015 in Dallas (F&F, May 4).

The trucks are powered by Ford’s 5.0-liter Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing) engine. Availability of the gaseous-prep version of the popular V-8 was announced at ACT Expo 2015 in Dallas this past May (F&F, May 4).

Westport has also received the EPA nod for dedicated-CNG vehicles with Ford’s E-450 chassis powered by the automaker’s 6.8-liter V-10, Shaffer told F&F.

In other recent news, Westport said it would work with CleanFuel USA on propane autogas-fueled Ford F-150 pickups (F&F, November 12).

Ford Debuts All-New Display for Engaging Visitor Experience at 2016 North American International Auto Show

  • Fusion, F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, FordPass and other Ford products and technologies are being introduced to the public through a completely redesigned Ford exhibit at the 2016 North American International Auto Show
  • Visitors to the show are invited to experience how Ford makes lives better through vehicle and technology innovations
  • Free build-it-yourself Ford GT snap kits are available for children, while adults can get photos and videos of their visit using Ford’s souvenir tag
DETROIT, Jan. 14, 2016 – The latest Ford products and technologies – including Ford Fusion, F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, FordPass and more – are being introduced to the public through an all-new Ford display at the 2016 North American International Auto Show.

The redesigned stand immerses visitors in Ford innovations that make life better – everything from new customer experiences to driver-assist technologies and advanced lightweight materials.

“We want the Ford visitor experience at the North American International Auto Show to be just as innovative as our products and technologies,” said Darrell Bryja, Ford global auto shows manager. “The new Ford display brings our biggest news to life, and the interactive elements enable families to become part of the action.”

Ford expects 70 percent of show visitors to enter through its newly Ford-branded Cobo Hall entrance at the corner of Washington Boulevard and West Congress. The concourse display includes historic and present-day Ford Performance and racing vehicles.

The new Ford exhibit inside the convention hall is encircled by an oval made of aluminum, encasing a 360-degree LED video ribbon. More than 114 million individual LEDs play vibrant high-definition video and spotlight visitors’ social media posts that use #FordNAIAS.

Two 36x19-foot LED video walls glide open and shut. Rather than riding on rails, the walls move using the same laser-guided, magnetically driven technology that moves F-150 parts through the Dearborn Truck Plant. Sensors built into the LED video walls detect buried wire, which controls the walls’ nearly silent opening and closing.

Vehicles are showcased on a 78-foot-diameter revolving turntable in the center of the stand, with three smaller turntables on it.

Show-goers are invited to learn more about Ford Smart Mobility, which is Ford’s plan to use innovation to take Ford to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, data and analytics and the customer experience. This area focuses on innovations, ongoing research and pilots that make up Ford Smart Mobility. Guests can share their opinions on Ford Smart Mobility and their feedback will be directed back to the engineers and researchers leading various projects.

Consumers can see how Ford has made backing a trailer convenient with Pro Trailer Backup Assist. An F-150 rises almost two stories above the show floor, in line with an immersive video screen where a virtual trailer responds to a driver simply twisting a knob to back up the truck.

Visitors can take a virtual ride in Explorer One – an Explorer Platinum also lifts off the show floor to relive its 2015 Platinum Adventure Tour through some of the most scenic places in North America.

Truck fans can sit in a testing simulator to experience how the all-new Super Duty was tested to be Built Ford Tough. The simulator mimics grueling tests that condense the hard work Super Duty customers expect of their truck.

The full Ford Performance lineup makes its first appearance on the all-new upper level of the display – featuring Ford GT, F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, Focus RS and Shelby® GT350 Mustang.

A shopping area on the lower level offers an array of Ford vehicles with accessories, personalization enhancements and Ford licensed merchandise.

Kids ages 11 and younger can get a free build-it-yourself Ford GT snap kit while supplies last, and adults can take home photos and video of their experience using a Ford souvenir tag. Visitors simply scan barcodes on the stand and provide an email address where the photos and video are to be sent. Guests can preregister at fordautoshows.com.

For those unable to attend the show in person, roving camera crews will capture product narrations and other stories from the Ford stand and webcast them on fordautoshows.com.

  • Renowned auto enthusiast and TV legend Jay Leno will be on the block at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale to auction his custom 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150, (Lot #3006)
  • A one-of-one truck, this F-150 is the only one ever built with a supercharged 360-horsepower 5.4-liter Triton V8 engine
  • Proceeds from the sale of this custom F-150 will be donated to National Multiple Sclerosis Society
DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 8, 2016 Ford Motor Company and Jay Leno, renowned auto enthusiast and star of Jay Leno’s Garage, are teaming up to auction the TV legend’s personal one-of-one 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150 at the 45th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction at WestWorld of Scottsdale.

All proceeds will benefit National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the country’s leading organization helping people affected by multiple sclerosis through cutting-edge research, advocacy and education. Live TV coverage of the auction of this custom F-150 will air on Velocity on Jan. 29.

“Jay Leno and Ford Motor Company share a passion for special vehicles and charity,” said Jim Owens, Ford Performance marketing manager. “We enjoy working with celebrities like Jay Leno who support a worthwhile cause that makes a positive difference in people’s lives. It’s a great story, because organizations can receive the help they need, while automotive enthusiasts get a chance to own a one-of-a-kind vehicle.”

Leno will be on the block to help auction his Harley-Davidson F-150, (Lot #3006). Representing the first collaborative effort between Ford and Harley-Davidson, this distinctive pickup captured the imagination of auto enthusiasts across North America when it was introduced in May 2000.

The truck is the only one in existence that features the SVT Lightning powertrain. Equipped with a supercharged 5.4-liter Triton V8, this custom monochrome black F-150 features distinctive Harley-Davidson orange pin-striping and badging and 20-inch styled chrome wheels. It cranks out approximately 360 horsepower that exits through a specially tuned single-inlet dual-outlet exhaust for a more robust sound.

“This is an opportunity to own a truly unique vehicle from my personal collection,” said Leno. “Not only is this Harley-Davidson F-150 the only one of its kind, it’s providing much needed resources to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The next owner can feel good knowing that they’re getting an outstanding truck and supporting a great cause at the same time.”

This custom Harley-Davidson F-150 has been titled to Leno since it was first presented to him by Ford Division President Jim O'Connor at Ford World Headquarters in May 2000.

In addition to the latest Ford Performance models, Ford will have its full 2016 vehicle lineup on display at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, including the new Explorer and F-150, as well as all-new Lincoln sedans and SUVs. Auction-goers will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of their favorite Ford Motor Company models for on-site ride-and-drives.

Visit the Jay Leno’s Garage website on Jan. 18, for more information about the Harley-Davidson F-150 and an exclusive video featuring Leno and the truck.

For auction information, visit the Barrett-Jackson website or Facebook.

The Largest Dump Truck in The World - BelAZ 75710

The BelAZ 75710 is an ultra-class haul truck by Belarusian manufacturer BelAZ. At 500 short tons, it is the world's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck. The BelAz 75710 has a conventional two-axle setup, but with dualled wheels (like a scaled-up International Payhauler 350), hence it needs eight 59/80 R63 tyres. Unusually, it has four-wheel drive and four-wheel hydraulic steering. The turning radius is claimed to be 20 metres.

The 75710 can carry a 450 tonne (500 short tons) load. The empty weight is 360 tonnes - much more heavily built than the previous model, which was 240 tonnes. It is 20.6 metres long, 8.16 metres high, and 9.87 metres wide. The bed is relatively shallow, limiting the volume of material that can be carried.

Instead of a single engine, the Siemens MMT 500 drive system (with AC/AC diesel-electric transmission based on the ELFA inverters) is powered by two 65-litre 16-cylinder diesel engines, each with 2300 horsepower. 2 engines working together give a power of 4,600 hp. This, in addition to the shallow bed, dualled tyres, and very heavy empty weight, has led to concerns about operating efficiency.

Fuel consumption (according to company data) is 198 g/kWh per engine, with option to run on only one if carrying less than capacity loads. Maximum speed is 64 km/h, and economy maximum speed (when fully loaded and on a 10% gradient) is 40 km/h

ISUZU CELEBRATES RECORD-BREAKING 2015

Sales of N-Series trucks and Isuzu Parts Reach All-Time Highs

ANAHEIM, Calif.—Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc, distributor of America’s best-selling low cab forward trucks, announced today that it shattered two long-standing sales records in 2015—for the highest parts sales and for sales of Isuzu  commercial trucks.

Isuzu dealers retailed 20,725 Isuzu trucks to customers in 2015—a record for Isuzu trucks in the United States. This record included a whopping 10.5 percent gain in Isuzu N-Series sales versus 2014.
This outpaced Isuzu’s competitive set in Class 3 through 5 commercial vehicles. Calendar-year registrations of Class 3 through 5 vehicles through October 2015, the latest month for which figures are available, were up only 5 percent, less than half the N-Series pace.

Meanwhile, Isuzu sold 5.5 percent more parts in the U.S. than it did in 2014, representing the most parts ever sold. “After celebrating the 30th anniversary of Isuzu trucks here in 2014, what better way to start our fourth decade in the United States market than with record-breaking sales?” asked Shaun C. Skinner, executive vice president and general manager of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America.
“Thanks to the strength of our product, the loyalty of our customers and the dedication of our dealers, we expect to be setting more records for many years to come,” Skinner said.

About Isuzu Trucks:

Isuzu commercial trucks have been the best-selling low cab forward trucks in America every year since 1986.  Headquartered in Anaheim, California, Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc., is the distributor of Isuzu commercial vehicles in the United States. Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. is a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
