GBI PUTS FAITH SOLELY IN ISUZU

IAL - GBI Puts Faith Solely In Isuzu - Small
GBI Distribution understands the value of high quality customer service.

According to the company, this is the main reason behind their recent decision to upgrade their fleet to consist entirely of Isuzu trucks.

The Cannington-based, WA, family-owned company has been in operation for more than 55 years and, during that time, has developed a fierce reputation for quality delivery.

Some of their major clients include appliance supplier Miele and car audio giant, Pioneer.

They deliver throughout the wide-expanses of Western Australia.

GBI presently boasts 19 delivery and service vehicles, ranging from three-tonne to 10-tonne trucks, across the N and F Series ranges, many of these are fitted with tailgate lifters to assist in loading and unloading premium white goods.

Warehousing and Logistics Manager, Gary Murray, said trust had convinced GBI to fill their fleet entirely with Isuzu trucks.

“They’re honest and reliable to deal with, it’s simple as that,” he said.

“The communication lines are always open.

“If they say something is going to be done on a Thursday, it’s done on a Thursday.”

Mr Murray said another consideration was the presentation of the truck, which reflects well on their clients.

“As a company, our point-of-difference is that we cater for top-end clients, who take pride in their brand,” he said.

“When we deliver their items, what customers notice are our beautifully painted and presented trucks.”

He said another reason to opt 100% Isuzu was the range of models and Isuzu’s adaptability.

“We do modify some of our trucks to suit the cargo,” he said.

“Among the items transported are sub-zero fridges, so we need trucks to suit, trucks with the right height and width to accommodate these goods.”

Mr Murray said Isuzu had always been up to the challenge, no matter the requirements.

“In the past, we’ve sat down with Isuzu and drawn up plans that matched our needs,” he said.

“On every occasion, they’ve delivered trucks to our needs and specifications, with no worries.”

ISUZU PROVES SMART BUSINESS DECISION

IAL - Isuzu Proves Smart Business Decision - Small
After recognising a need for a truck driver training service in his hometown of Gladstone, Queensland, Adam Van Vegchel stepped up to the challenge.

The result is United Driver Training, which aims to equip aspiring professional drivers with the skills they need to enter the industry safely.

Mr Van Vegchel believes the importance of well-trained drivers on our roads should not be underestimated, and he hopes his business will help the next generation of new entrants hit the highways running.

“I’ve spent my working life in transport and was looking for a change of pace from driving trucks but something still connected with the industry,” Mr Van Vegchel said.

“There were previously no trainers in the town,” Mr Van Vegchel said.

“Whenever anyone wanted to be trained, other trainers had to come in from out of town.

“I’d been thinking about starting the business for a while, but in the end I thought, ‘why not go for it’.”

But taking the leap into business is not without its risks.

To start with, he needed a reliable, cost-effective truck, which could withstand the demands from heavy rigid learner drivers.

So when it came time for Mr Van Vegchel to invest in a truck, he looked to a trusted brand and eventually decided on an Isuzu FXZ 1500. Fitted with a tray body, which is capable of transporting loads such as concrete blocks.

Mr Van Vegchel said he sought out a truck that had the right blend of safety, reliability and hardiness.

“Firstly, I needed a crash box, which is what the students need to learn in,” Mr Van Vegchel said.

“I needed something which was strong and gave the students a realistic experience of what they can expect in the work force.”

“Of course a lot of new trucks sold these days are fitted with automatic and automated manual transmissions, but there are plenty out there that are manual and not all have synchro transmissions.

“It’s like going for your car licence, being able to drive a manual provides a lot more flexibility.  In the case of trucks, if you can operate a non-synchro gearbox then you can drive any truck, no matter the transmission as long as you have the correct endorsement.”

Mr Van Vegchel opted for the Eaton RTO 11908LL, which hasn’t let him down.

According to Mr Van Vegchel, safety and river comfort and convenience were also important considerations.

The Isuzu comes equipped with ABS and airbags, as well as an ultra-comfortable ride thanks to the ISRI 6860 drivers seat.

As standard in Isuzu trucks, there is good instrumentation and comfortable access to driver controls, with the high cabin providing excellent outward facing visibility.

He said the Isuzu had given him confidence during the start-up phase.

“Everything that I wanted in a truck came stock-standard, such as the digital audio system and cruise control,” Mr Van Vegchel said.

“Things are going pretty well, we’ve got plans to add another truck.”

With the safety and reliability of an Isuzu truck behind him, Mr Van Vechel is confident his business will bring a much-needed service to the Gladstone region.

2014 Ultimate Heavy-Duty Challenge: Three-Quarter-Ton Video

We knew testing these three-quarter-ton trucks in head-to-head competition would be difficult and interesting, but we didn't know that with our 3,000-plus total points that less than 125 points would separate the winner from third place.

To call this comparison test extremely tight and, in some cases, a real blowout would both be true. Find out exactly how each truck performed and where we thought Chevrolet, Ford and Ram offered their greatest strengths and biggest weaknesses in our video below.

CUMMINS FIRST TO MEET 2015 LEV III EMISSIONS REGULATIONS

Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel Is The First Diesel Engine
In A Medium-Duty Vehicle Certified To Meet
Low-Emission Vehicle III (LEV III) Standards

COLUMBUS, Ind. (Aug. 15, 2014) – Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) announced today that it has received certification for its 6.7L Turbo Diesel from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), meeting the Low-Emission Vehicle III (LEV III) standards. This new standard applies to all vehicles under 14,000 lb GVWR. The Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel powers the Ram Heavy-Duty lineup, and is the first medium-duty diesel engine in the 8,501-14,000 lb GVWR segment to be certified to the new 2015 LEV III standards.

“At Cummins, we demand that everything we do leads to a cleaner, healthier and safer environment,” said Jeff Caldwell, General Manager – Pickup Business. “Being the first in this segment to certify to these new standards demonstrates our continued commitment to the environment, and meeting more stringent requirements without hardware changes allows us to maintain the proven capability and reliability that our customers have grown to expect."

Under LEV III, the nitrogen oxide (NOx) and non-methane organic gas (NMOG) standards are combined into a single NOx+NMOG standard, along with extension of emissions-useful life to 150,000 miles for emissions control systems. LEV III standards also introduce more stringent NOx+NMOG fleet average requirements, which phase in from MY 2015-2022 for all medium-duty vehicles. These new standards were adopted by the Air Resources Board (ARB) in January 2012.

This comes as Cummins implements its most comprehensive environmental sustainability plan ever. The plan, announced in early 2014, builds on past successes to address the company’s biggest opportunities to make a positive environmental impact – from the materials it buys to its products in use. The plan also includes specific goals for Cummins to reduce its environmental footprint.
Cummins began providing diesel engines to Chrysler in 1988, and has shipped over 2 million engines in the last 25 years.
