Isuzu FYH 2000s right for outback concreter
Located in Australia’s north-west, the Pilbara is often referred to Australia’s engine room – home to the massive mining industry in crude oil, salt, natural gas and iron ore.
Supporting the mining industry is Pilbara Concrete Service, a concrete and labour supplier which doesn’t shy away from the harsh and remote conditions not to mention the sweltering heat.
Pilbara Concrete Service is also one of the first companies to be using Isuzu’s new FYH 2000, with two having been added to its fleet some months ago in a bid to keep up with ongoing industry demand.
While airbag suspension is often specified for Agitator work in the form of Isuzu’s FYJ model, given the inhospitable conditions, Pilbara Concrete Services opted for the added strength of taper leaf springs.
The company supplies an extensive range of ready mixed concrete and contracts labour to various companies such as Rio Tinto and the Australian Air Services, as well as residential clients in the region.
Across its seven offices, the company employees 25 staff in the Pilbara region.
Established by the Hill Family Trust in 2010, Pilbara Concrete Service has relied on Isuzu from its inception.
Pilbara Concrete Service Manager, Marcel Stadoliukas, said that the company has been pleased with the performance of all their Isuzus.
“Our first Isuzu was a FVZ 1400 and we haven’t considered another truck brand since,” Marcel said.
“Isuzu makes great trucks – they are the perfect size and capacity for our day-to-day needs.
“We are proud to have an exclusively Isuzu fleet and currently have 11 in service.”
In addition to the two FYH 2000s, the company has various N and F Series models in their fleet ranging from a NPR 200 to a FXZ 1500.
Some of company’s services include support for mining infrastructure and residential construction.
The two new FYH 2000s are fitted with 8.4 m3 agitator bowls, built by Mixers Australia and are used to transport concrete to clients for their construction needs.
According to Marcel, the FYH 2000 is well suited for harsh conditions.
“We are quite happy that Isuzu released the FY Series,” Marcel said
“All we needed to do was fit some rock tyres onto the FYH 2000s and they are good to go.
“Our trucks drive in some of the most extreme environments and places where only four-wheel-drives would dare to venture.”
Marcel also praised the FYH 2000s’ power.
The truck's SiTEC Series III 350 engine is rated at 257 kW @ 2,000 RPM and 1,422 Nm @ 1,200 - 1,500 RPM.
“We’ve had no problem with the trucks conquering steep and rocky hills with a full 12 tonne load,” Marcel said.
“The standard rear axle and cross difflocks have also proven themselves when we've needed extra traction.”
The two new trucks are fitted with a roll over protection structure (ROPS), a falling object protective structure (FOPS), and Hella Rallye 4000 driving lights for added visibility.
The FYH 2000 features the Isri 6860 driver's seat with integrated seatbelt and coil spring cab suspension with hydraulic shock absorbers.
According to Marcel, the trucks’ comfort features make the harsh conditions of the Pilbara more bearable.
“Some of the roads out here can be pretty rough, the Isri seat and cabin with its appointments make the going easier,” Marcel said.
“The Allison 4430 automatic transmission, which also comes as a standard, makes handling the truck a lot easier and accessible for our drivers too.
“All round vision is excellent too, making reversing a breeze.”
As the company expands with the mining industry, it will continue to add Isuzu trucks to its fleet.

2014 Mercedes Benz Citan - Official Trailer
Powerful models -- new engine variants and numerous conversions for the Mercedes-Benz Citan
-New Citan 111 CDI: powerful, smooth, economical
-New Citan 112: lively, comfortable, cost-effective
-New extra-long Citan crewbus with up to seven seats
-Bodybuilder Centre and VanPartner -- the Citan made to measure
Powerful models from Mercedes-Benz round off the range of Citan urban delivery vans. The new top-of-the-line diesel model is the Citan 111 CDI developing 81 kW (110 hp). With its petrol engine, the Citan 112 (84 kW/112 hp) is likewise new. The extra-long Citan crewbus with up to seven seats will follow in spring 2014. In cooperation with well-known bodybuilders, the Citan model range is extended further: thanks to the certification scheme VanPartner by Mercedes-Benz, tested industry-specific solutions are available.
Mercedes-Benz Citan: successfully established
One year after its launch, the urban delivery van bearing the Mercedes star has established itself well. It has now been introduced in all EU countries, Switzerland, Norway and Turkey. Russia is currently set to follow as another market. Work is underway to launch in Chile, for example, while other regions in Southeast Asia and the Middle East are also being examined. Further variants broaden the offering.
New Citan 111 CDI: powerful, smooth, economical
The new top-of-the-line diesel model is the Citan 111 CDI. The engine here develops 81 kW (110 hp) from a displacement of 1.5 litres. Maximum torque is 240 Nm, making the Citan 111 CDI equally strong on pulling power.
The Citan 111 CDI is a lively performer, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds. Its top speed of 170 km/h also makes it suitable for long distances. At the same time, it is among the most economical and environmentally friendly vehicles in its class: equipped with the optional BlueEfficiency package including the Eco start/stop function, the Citan achieves an outstanding combined fuel consumption of just 4.4 litres per 100 km. The list price for the long Citan 111 CDI panel van is €17,130 (excl. VAT).
New Citan 112: lively, comfortable, cost-effective
The new Citan 112 is particularly agile and comfortable at work. At 84 kW (112 hp), it obtains the highest output from the smallest displacement (1.2 l) in the model series. It is also one of the most cost-effective and low-emission urban delivery vans. BlueEfficiency technology and an Eco start/stop function are standard features. Combined fuel consumption is low at 6.1 litres/100 km.
With a top speed of 173 km/h and acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in just 11.7 seconds, the Citan 112 offers impressive performance. The long panel van is priced at €15,810 (excl. VAT).
Both the Citan 111 CDI and the Citan 112 are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard. With its wide ratio spread, the transmission ensures both powerful start-off characteristics and low engine speeds at higher road speeds. This is accompanied by low driving noise and favourable fuel consumption.
New extra-long Citan crewbus with up to seven seats
As another new addition, the Citan is available as a crewbus with up to seven seats. It is based on the extra-long variant (length: 4705 mm). This crewbus is intended for commercial passenger transport, commercial transport of personnel and/or cargo, as well as mixed private and commercial use.
The new third seat row in the Citan consists of two individual seats. These are independently adjustable fore-and-aft, and can be individually folded down or removed as required.
Bodybuilder Centre and VanPartner -- the Citan made to measure
Individual solutions for special requirements -- conversions and custom bodies have always been important at Mercedes-Benz Vans. What is not available ex factory can be taken care of by bodybuilders. For the Citan, the conversion rate is already 16 percent.
The Bodybuilder Centre at Mercedes-Benz Vans is a partner to body and conversion specialists. It provides advice to these companies and accompanies new developments by Mercedes-Benz Vans. End-users also benefit: the publicly available information portal www.vanpartner.info provides an overview of more than 300 product solutions from around 90 partners - already including numerous versions for the Citan.
The companies featured on the website qualify as a VanPartner by Mercedes-Benz because they have achieved a special status: Mercedes-Benz Vans has not only approved the relevant solution, but even recommends it to end-users. Both quality and the level of sales and service are scrutinised extensively. By the end of the year, there will be VanPartners in all major European markets.

Hoist-It’s first Isuzu is replaced eventually, after 13 years of hard graft
After 13 years and over 300,000 miles of dedicated service for a Wigan based supplier of construction hoist products Hoist-It Ltd, the company decided it was high time to replace its first Isuzu. An ‘X’ registration plated NQR 7.5 tonner, which was originally purchased in 2000, has recently been replaced by a brand-new 2013 Isuzu Forward N75.190 4 x 2 rigid.
The new medium wheelbase 7.5 tonner, now the third Isuzu working at the company, was specified with the popular Easyshift transmission and a dropside body with a Fassi 65 rear mounted crane. With this type of crane, the operator has a reach of approximately 8.5 metres for the unloading of hoist products and machinery on-site.
The body on the Isuzu also features an effective hand rail protection system for those occasions where it is necessary for the driver to operate the crane or work from within the truck body. It also has full Health & Safety approved steps for accessing the body.
Hoist-It are one of the country’s premier suppliers of construction hoist products and, according to the company, the Isuzu rigid will be covering approximately 25,000 km per annum, delivering construction and specialist application hoists to its customer base, predominantly in the North of England.
The original Isuzu NQR, nicknamed affectionately by Hoist-It as ‘The Beast’ because of its rugged uncompromising performance, will be staying in service with Hoist It. As Financial Director Gordon Gedling explains, “Our first Isuzu is probably the best vehicle we have ever owned in the 30 years of being in business, giving us very few problems over the last 13 years. It just made common sense to get another Isuzu when the time came that we had to consider replacing ‘The Beast’. It would be absolute fantastic if we were to get another 13 years of similar performance from the new Isuzu."
The recently acquired Isuzu 7.5tonne rigid was supplied to Hoist-It by local Isuzu dealer Warrington Vehicle Centre and Gordon Gedling was quick to praise the service and support the company gets, “Warrington Vehicle Centre have been absolutely brilliant to deal with during the vehicle purchase period, they were really attentive giving us excellent service and included a number of differing crane options for consideration within the vehicle specification.”
“Longevity, payload and proven performance are recognised as the key operating benefits of the hard-working Isuzu product range. Hoist-It has experienced first-hand that Isuzu trucks really do work hard for their living and give customers a truly reliable and effective performance during their working life,” said Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck.
Full details of the current Isuzu Truck range can be viewed and downloaded from the company’s website on www.isuzutruck.co.uk

COLOGNE, Germany, Sept. 25, 2013 – Ford Motor Company has announced a new high-roof version of the Transit Custom one-tonne commercial vehicle offering 20 per cent more load volume than the low-roof model is now available to order in Europe for delivery later this year.

The high-roof model is unique in the segment for its all-steel roof construction that offers more durability than composite roof panels, along with roof rack capability and a maximum roof load of 100 kilograms.

Pink Fish Plumbing hooks up with Isuzu
Sydney’s bustling traffic and high incidence of narrow inner city streets make it almost mandatory for plumbers to have a work vehicle compact enough to provide easy maneuverability, while also being powerful enough to carry all their equipment and fittings.
To fulfill this requirement, newcomer to the Sydney plumbing landscape, Pink Fish Plumbing, has been turning heads around the city with its new brightly painted Isuzu NLR 200 Short featuring custom body.
The owner-operated business was established by husband and wife team, Brett and Kelly Parsons, who recently relocated to Sydney after two years spent pipe fitting, plumbing and operating machinery within the Western Australian mining industry.
Now that they have returned home, Brett and Kelly are devoting all of their energy to Pink Fish Plumbing, which provides its residential customers with a complete range of plumbing services, including unblocking drains and sewers, installing taps and toilets and gas fitting.
As an additional offering, Pink Fish Plumbing also provides a 24 hour emergency plumbing service.
“Customers are able to book me for regular plumbing jobs and I am available for emergency work, such as fixing a burst pipe, at any time of the day or night,” Brett said.
“We believe it’s important to make our customers happy and exceed their expectations by providing a reliable service at a good rate.”
Based in Sydney’s inner west, Pink Fish Plumbing is able to service the entire metropolitan area, as well as the surrounding suburbs, travelling to jobs in its Isuzu NLR 200 Short.
According to Brett, many plumbers use Isuzu’s NPR 450 model; however Brett requires a more compact option to manoeuver through Sydney’s tight streets.
“The areas I work in require a small vehicle, as the streets are very narrow, such as Balmain and Paddington,” Brett said.
“However I need to carry a lot of equipment on my truck, so it was essential it could handle this. A utility would have been too small to bear the load and carry all of the gear I require. It’s important I have all of my tools and equipment with me at jobs so that I can work quickly and efficiently.”
Included in this equipment is a high pressure water jetting system that has been installed on the NLR by Sewerquip. According to Brett the system is very heavy, consisting of a water tank, motor, pump, fuel and an extra battery.
“I needed the right vehicle – big and powerful enough to carry my equipment, but small enough to drive on the narrow streets. The NLR doesn’t struggle at all with the heavy load on the back,” he said.
“The truck’s automated manual transmission (AMT) allows me to drive in automatic most of the time, but also flick across to manual if required. This makes the NLR easy to drive in all conditions, including stop-start traffic and highways.
“The cab is comfortable to travel in and the stereo is a nice addition with all its connections and features.
“Isuzus are renowned for being the best trucks on the road, which is why I chose to purchase this truck for our business.”
After taking delivery of the NLR 200, Brett and Kelly wanted to ensure it would stand out on the road.
“The truck’s aluminium body was fabricated by Pacific Body Works and features a central locking system and lit compartments making night time work easier,” Brett said.
“The body has a great storage system and its locks are strong, so it is resistant to thieves.
“To give the truck its eye-catching look, Motorgraphics then applied the signage and artwork to the body. It has certainly generated a lot of attention.”
As artistic individuals, Brett and Kelly sought a business name that would stand out from competitors.
“We wanted to break away from all of the unimaginative plumbing business names and logos and use something that stays in people’s minds. That’s why we chose Pink Fish Plumbing, as it’s quite bizarre, grabs attention and portrays that our business is different from others,” Brett said.

All-new Ford Transit Range makes Australian Debut
- Ford is launching the all-new Ford Transit range early next year, the latest in the long line of market-leading vans, of which 7 million have been sold since the first model appeared in 1965
- Designed to be the most stylish and safest Ford Transits ever
- All-new Ford Transit Custom combines a car-like interior and driving experience, with class-competitive load-carrying ability, low cost-of-ownership and legendary Transit heritage
- All-new Ford Transit Cargo adds flexibility of multiple combinations for customers
- Ford’s small business and commercial customers have more reasons to smile with the arrival of the all-new Ford Transit Custom van and all-new Ford Transit Cargo early next year.
Designed to be the most stylish and safest Transit range ever, the all-new Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo have bold an expressive new looks and are packed with the latest safety technologies, as part of Ford’s mission to appeal to a broader range of customers, including skilled tradesmen and small businesses.
“These two cargo carriers are designed to meet the most demanding needs of van users small and large,” Ford Motor Company Chief Operating Officer, Mark Fields, said.
Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano, said: “We are bringing Australians a full family of stylish, innovative, safe, high quality, fuel efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles.”
Although it provides a more car-like interior and driving experience, the new Ford Transit Custom has lost none of Ford Transit’s legendary toughness, combining class-competitive load-carrying ability and attractive cost-of-ownership with the fuel efficiency expected by van customers.
“The Ford Transit Custom is a new kind of Transit, with a distinctive new design direction and a host of advanced features that will appeal to our customers,” Graziano said.
Australian customers will be able to get behind the wheel of the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo early next year. The Ford Transit Cargo adds the flexibility of multiple combinations for customers, which will include multiple roof heights, Single and Double Cab chassis models and a 12-seater bus.
The Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo are both important components of Ford’s transition story in Australia.
“We’re committed to offering our customers the latest technologies and design and that includes providing wider choices for those customers seeking more versatility from their van,” Graziano said. “Both are stylish, modern vans that our customers will be proud to have in their driveway and yet will have the hard-working attitude customers expected of a Ford Transit.”
The newest Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo are the latest in a long line of market-defining Transits, which have sold 7 million vehicles since the first model was introduced in 1965.
Bold new appearance, strong driver appeal
The Ford Transit Custom “International Van of the Year 2013” features a bold new exterior which embodies the same dynamic character as Ford’s latest passenger cars.
The new model offers class-competitive load carrying ability, including a number of innovative new load-space features, such as a unique integrated roof rack system and an ingenious load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items.
In the cab, there is a modern, driver-focused cockpit, which features a sculpted instrument panel that combines stylish looks with smart stowage solutions for bottles, phones and papers.
Once behind the wheel, the driver can call upon a wide range of driver assistance technologies shared with Ford’s latest passenger cars, including the Ford SYNC voice-activated connectivity system.
The strong driver appeal of the Ford Transit Custom is reinforced by dynamics and performance which have been carefully tuned to reflect the same natural and easy-to-drive character which customers appreciate on Ford’s passenger car range, together with much reduced noise levels.
Built tough for maximum occupant protection, and extreme durability
Designed to be the safest Ford Transits ever, the Ford Transit Custom features an optimised body structure to maximise occupant protection that features ultra-high-strength Boron steel for the first time on a Ford Transit.
Like all Ford commercial vehicles which share the Transit badge, the all-new Ford Transit Custom has been developed to offer exceptional cost-of-ownership and durability.
The all-new Ford Transit Custom has also been subjected to Ford’s ultra-stringent Commercial Vehicle testing and durability standards.
Even before the vehicle goes on sale, it will have been driven the equivalent of five million kilometres, including at least 400,000 km with existing Transit customers.
Key components and systems are tested to the limit: for example, front doors go through an intensive regime of 250,000 non-stop slam cycles, which is three times more punishing than Ford’s equivalent passenger car test.
The Ford Transit Custom will feature Ford’s latest 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine.
Apart from Australia, the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo will be sold in more than 90 markets worldwide.
Full specification and features of both the Ford Transit Custom and Ford Transit Cargo will be revealed closer to launch.
