Exciting footage of the 1952 Cummins Diesel Special and others qualifying for the race. The only diesel car ever to win pole position for the Indianapolis 500, record-setting #28 was powered by a horizontally-mounted Model JT Cummins diesel engine. It was the first turbocharged race car, and the first wind-tunnel tested car. Driven by Freddy Agabashian, it finished 27th. The car withdrew from the race after 180 miles due to debris that choked the turbocharger.
