New Ford Ranger to debut at Frankfurt Motor Show

Ford Ranger 2016Making its European debut, Ford will be pulling the covers off the heavily revised new Ranger pick-up line-up on its stand at the prestigious 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (17 – 27 September). It was launched in Thailand back in March and has since gone on sale in Australia (see videos below). Rangers bound for the UK are built in South Africa and the new models are due to hit showrooms at the beginning 2016.

Ford has redesigned the front end and the cab interior to give Ranger a fresh new look, but the big news lies under the bonnet. The current 125hp and 150hp 2.2-litre four cylinder diesels have been replaced by a re-worked version producing 160hp. It’s available alongside an updated version of the existing 200hp 3.2-litre five cylinder engine.

Thanks to a combination of Auto-Start-Stop, new final drive ratio options and the introduction of electric power steering reductions in fuel consumption of up to 17 per cent are on the cards. Official combined cycle figures for the new 2.2TDCi are 43.5mpg (171g/km of CO2), a significant improvement over the outgoing 150hp unit’s 36.2mpg (206g/km).

From launch both the revised engines will be compliant with Euro 5 emissions regulations, but by the middle of 2016 a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system with a urea catalyst and NOx trap will be added to both 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre powertrains. This will bring them up to Euro 6 compliance which kicks-in for panel vans and pick-ups sold from 1 September.

Ford Ranger 2016A host of optional driver assistance technologies derived from passenger car models can be specified on the new models, including Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert. These join Front and Rear Park Assist and Rear View Camera, all on top of the standard ESC system with rollover mitigation and trailer sway control. Ford’s latest generation SYNC 2 connectivity system will also be available on new Ranger.

Commenting on the flagship Wildtrak model that will adorn the stand at the show Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe said: “With the stunning new Wildtrak at the pinnacle of the line-up, the new Ford Ranger provides customers with an unbeatable combination of four-wheel drive capability, stand-out styling and premium features like SYNC 2 connectivity. Ranger is ready for any challenge – offering optimised fuel efficiency, towing and payload capacity, and class-leading wading capability.

“For customers looking for a pickup that shares their appetite for adventure, the new Ranger Wildtrak is the complete package. It’s the toughest, smartest, boldest Wildtrak we’ve ever made.”
